Witchnapped In Westerham – Dionne Lister

First book of the year has been completed! I actually finished this book on the third, which I was pretty happy about. The past few years, I’ve found reading really hard, it’s been a slow process to get back to enjoying reading. I’m happy to be enjoying reading again!

Witchnapped in Westerham centres around Lily, an Australian photographer. An unusual English woman turns up at Lily’s door and explains that her brother, James, has been kidnapped and that they need Lily’s help to find the kidnapper. Why do they need Lily’s help? Because Lily is a witch, and her powers started yesterday on her birthday. Next thing Lily knows, she’s being whisked off to England to help the Paranormal Investigations Bureau helped find her brother.

I originally purchased this book because it was free on Kindle from Amazon. I didn’t know much about the plot when I started the book, but as soon as I started reading Witchnapped in Westerham, I was hooked. This book is such an easy book to get into, the plot has you hooked from the moment you start it as it throws you straight into the midst of the intrigue, as you find out Lily’s brother has been kidnapped and Lily is needed to help investigate as she is a witch!

The plot develops really quickly and Lily’s character is really interesting which holds the reader in the story. Suddenly, your on a plane to England with Lily as she’s plunged into this new world that she didn’t even know existed until a few hours earlier. The writing is very easy to read, the plot will keep you hooked and the characters are developed enough to keep you reading to see what is going to happen.

I have already purchased the next book in the series. Witchnapped in Westerham left me wanting to know more about Lily’s adventures as she learns more about her powers and the trials and tribulations that go alongside.

October TBR

Another month, another TBR list! What’s on the agenda this month you ask?

1.Salt to the Sea -Ruta Sepetys

The last book I read by Ruta Sepetys was amazing and I definitely have high hopes with Salt to the Sea! I love a WW2 historical fiction novel so I can’t wait to get stuck into this book!

2. The Lies of Locke Lamora – Scott Lynch

I’ve had this book as an audiobook for a while but I’ve never gotten round to listening to it. It’s 28 hours long which is daunting but I want to get cracking on it this month on my commutes to and from work!

3. After You -Jojo Moyes

I’ve been meaning to read After You since it came out and it’s just been sitting on my shelf gathering dust! Time to bust it out as the weather is getting to cosy weather and I love romance novels when it’s autumn and winter!

What books are you picking up this month?

March TBR Pile

Hello!

I didn’t do quite as well with my reading in February as I would have liked (I only read ONE book, what!?), so I’m hoping to get back on track again this month. I’m not giving myself too big of a goal, but I really want to get back into listening to audiobooks on my commute, so hopefully that will help to up my reading game!

1. Wild – Cheryl Strayed: Does this count as cheating because I started this is February, but I’m hoping to finish this audiobook this month. I’m loving it so far, the narrator’s voice is so relaxing (which probably doesn’t make it the commuter audiobook). I like how the narrative combines the walking and adventure with the stories about the past so seamlessly.

2. Charlotte’s Web – E.B White: Okay, so this definitely counts as cheating. I started reading this at the very start of February, but I left it at my parent’s house when I stayed over for the weekend and I’ve only just got it back this weekend. I’m loving it so far, it’s terrible that I’ve never read such a popular and classic child’s book before. I need to finish it this month!

3. Happy Mum, Happy Baby – Giovanna Fletcher: Is it weird that I purchased this book, despite not having a child, nor having any intention of having children at any point in the near future? Having said that, I’m very excited to listen to Giovanna narrate her way through her trials and tribulations of parenting!

4. If You’re Lucky – Yvonne Prinz: Okay, so this is terrible of me but I received this book months and months ago for review and I’ve still not managed to get round to picking this book up. So, I think it’s time to perhaps finally get round to reading. I don’t even remember what the book is about, but I’m planning on leaving it like that because I like a surprise read every now and again!

What books are you planning on reading this month?

December Book Haul

I’ve not done a book haul in a while because I’ve been trying to behave, however, it turns out that by not buying new books it makes me not want to read. So this month I caved and I bought a lot, in the hopes that it would make me want to read again and enjoy reading again!

  1. Someday, Someday, Maybe – Lauren Graham

This was my audible purchase for last month but I only got around to spending the token this month! I will admit it was entirely fuelled by the new episodes of the Gilmore Girls. I’ve actually got no clue what the book is about but I love Lauren Graham and I’ve heard great things about the book, so I took the plunge. Plus it’s narrated by Lauren Graham so it’s going to be great to listen to!

2. The Well of Ascension – Brandon Sanderson

I’ve had my eye on the second instalment in the Mistborn series for a while now but it’s always expensive so I’ve never bought it. However, I found books 2, 3 and 4 for £2 each in my local charity shop so I snatched them all up instantly and proceeded to tell the cashier what an absolute bargain the book were! They don’t even look like they’ve been read!

3. The Hero of Ages – Brandon Sanderson

As I said, £2! Who could resist that?

4. Alloy of Law – Brandon Sanderson

Again, £2! I’ve got a lot of epic fantasy to read!

Have you read any of the books in my haul? Have you got any recommendations of books to buy in the next month?

December TBR

Hello!

Doing these monthly TBR lists is my favourite part of blogging. I love making the lists of all the books I want to read, although I have a terrible habit of not sticking to them. I’ve been in a slump recently, so I’m making my December pile a lot lighter and fluffier than I would normally!

1. Small Great Things -Jodi Picoult

So this might be cheating a little because I’m already halfway through the book but you all know how much I love Jodi Picoult! I’m loving it so far, it’s addictive as always.

2. Always With Love – Giovanna Fletcher

I love Gi’s writing and I’ve had this book on my shelf since it came out. I need to get round to reading it, and I love reading chick lit around Christmas time!

3. One Christmas in Paris – Mandy Baggot

Again, another piece of chick lit, but a christmas themed piece of chick lit! Right up my alley at the moment. Who doesn’t love Christmas romance?

4. Noughts and Crosses – Malorie Blackman

The Noughts and Crosses series was one of my favourite when I was younger and I’ve not reread it in a while. Christmas is hectic at work, so I want a book that I can slip in and out of but that’s also addictive and easy to read.

What’s on your festive reading list?

November TBR

Hello and welcome the penultimate TBR list of 2016! It’s actually scary how quickly this year has passed, but they do say that time passes faster as you get older. Anyway, as normal, I’ve compiled a list of books that I want to read in the upcoming month that in all reality I’m going to read only one or two of! However, the intention is there so….

All The Light We Cannot See – Anthony Doerr

Why have I not read this yet? Everyone else and their brother has already read, loved and raved about this book apart from me! I’ve had it on my TBR pile for over a year and I’ve still not gotten around to reading it. This must be changed and November 2016 is the month to do it!

The One That Got Away – Melissa Pimentel

The closer it gets to Christmas, the more I love and adore chick lit. I don’t know why, the majority of people read chick lit on holidays in warmer climates. Me? There is nothing nicer than sitting down with a cuppa, on the sofa and underneath some blankets with a hot water bottle and reading a good old romance novel!

A Darker Shade of Magic – V.E Schwab

Would me TBR pile ever be complete without some young adult fantasy? I purchased this book entirely off of Peruse Project’s recommendation so I’m keen to see what it’s like. Plus who doesn’t need a bit of magic in their life?

The Night Circus – Erin Morgenstern

This is another book that I’ve had on my shelf for a very long time and never picked up. Yet for some reason, it’s also not on my Goodreads list so I’m baffled. I thin this is most likely to be the first on my TBR list to be picked up because I’ve heard such great things about the book.

What are you reading this month? Have you read any of the books on my list or do you have any recommendations?
